This week, hundreds of poker players from around the world have walked through the security doors and scanned their fingerprints in the Aviation Club de France (ACF). Yesterday we crowned our WPT main event champion, Natalia Nikitina, who was the only person left sitting after a fourteen hour final table marathon.

If you were creating a long title for a poker tournament: The World Poker Tour (WPT), National Series, Euro Finals Of Poker (EFOP) Diamond Championship, ?5,000 main event, would be a very good attempt.
188 players, some with short names and others with long names, all entered this tournament hoping to get to the final table of the tournament with the long name! But final tables only have eight seats and you have to play really well, run like god or have a bit of both in order to get there. Tobias Wagner, Natalia Nikitina, Sam Trickett, Nicolo Calia, Ingo Paulus, Alexandre Brivot, Benjamin Pollak and Jean-Louis Tepper all had a bit of both, and at 16:00 (CET) they had their faces dusted in foundation, took their seats and had their moment in front of the silver screen.

Valentines Day is a time to celebrate love and romance between intimate companions – a time where loved ones pass gifts onto one another. Jean Noel Thorel arrived on one of the most romantic avenues in the world in the Champs Elysees and walked into the Aviation Club de France. Then he got intimate around the poker table and in a show of gratitude to his companions, gave them all gifts in the form of sizeable chunks of his chip stack.

It was likely that today would be a short day. The tournament director had planned to play down from ten players to a final table of eight and it took 90-minutes to achieve his goal.

The best way to describe the WPT National Series in Paris is compact and bijou. The Aviation Club de France (ACF) is a small venue full of atmosphere and can only hold 100 players per day. 91 players started day 1a and 97 started day1b giving us a total of 188 players. Only 37 survived day 1a and 51 survived day 1b giving us a starting field of 88 players on day two.
